Kintsugi - the art of broken pieces

Inspired by the Japanese art of Kintsugi, this personal artwork reflects the fault lines that have shattered one's body, shattering it into shreds beyond the possibility of being the same as before. The project itself, portraying the feelings of a young woman, is part of displaying vulnerability, acceptance, and self-love by reflecting on painful times in one's life. Self-esteem concerns, trauma, anxiety, and mental health issues have all been transformed into strengths and life lessons.

Broken pieces and their repair merely contribute to the story of an object, they don’t ruin it.
— P. Reid

Still, repairing the shattered parts with gold is a continuing process that includes choosing love and respect for the body, mind, and soul above self-destructive behaviour in the past. Only through self-care, sensitivity, and awareness can we find beautiful journeys that bring us to heights that would be unattainable without breaking.
